How flexible are your travel dates?
For many families, this is the easiest place to start.

- Do you have limited vacation time from work?
- Are there sports, dance competitions, or other commitments that narrow your options?
If your travel dates are already determined by your schedule, that’s perfectly okay. We simply focus on making the most of the dates you have available. If your schedule is more flexible, you’ll have additional opportunities to choose dates that best match your priorities.
What kind of weather do you enjoy?
Florida weather changes throughout the year, and every family has a different comfort level.
Some families don’t mind the summer heat because they plan to spend time at the pool. Others would rather visit when temperatures are a little cooler and walking through the parks is more comfortable.
Neither option is right or wrong. It’s simply about choosing the experience that fits your family best.
Are there special events you want to experience?
Sometimes the best time to visit Disney World has nothing to do with weather or crowds. Instead, it’s about experiencing something special.
Maybe you’ve always wanted to attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Or perhaps seeing the Christmas decorations and attending Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party has been on your family’s bucket list. You might also enjoy one of EPCOT’s seasonal festivals, each offering unique food, entertainment, and experiences.
If one of those events is important to your family, it may help determine when you should plan your vacation.
Don’t rely on outdated “best times to visit” lists
One of the biggest changes I’ve seen over the years is that travel patterns have changed. What used to be considered a “slow” time at Walt Disney World isn’t always slow anymore.
Between changing school calendars, new attractions, festivals, runDisney weekends, special events, and Disney’s evolving pricing strategies, crowd patterns look very different than they did five or even ten years ago.
That’s why I encourage families to be cautious about articles or videos that promise a “secret” week with no crowds.
Instead of chasing a mythical low-crowd week, focus on choosing travel dates that match your family’s priorities. Then build a plan that helps you make the most of your vacation, regardless of when you visit.

Your travel dates don’t just influence crowds and weather—they also affect the overall cost of your vacation. Disney uses seasonal pricing, so resort rates and ticket prices can vary depending on the time of year.
If your schedule is flexible, adjusting your travel dates may allow you to stretch your vacation budget a little further. If your dates are fixed because of school or work schedules, that’s perfectly okay too.
