Walt Disney world Resort Saratoga Springs Resort

Choosing the right Disney World resort is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when planning your vacation. It’s also one of the first questions families ask me.

It’s a great question, but it’s also one of the hardest to answer without learning more about your family. The truth is, there isn’t one “best” Disney World resort. The best resort is the one that fits the kind of vacation your family wants to have.

Before you start comparing resort names, room photos, or prices, take a step back and think about what matters most to your family. The answers to those questions will help narrow your choices much faster than trying to compare every Disney resort.

How important is convenience?

Think about how you picture your days at Walt Disney World. Will you head to the parks first thing in the morning and stay until closing? Or do you think you’ll head back to your resort in the afternoon for naps, pool time, or a break from the Florida heat?

Some resorts offer transportation options like walking paths, the monorail, or the Skyliner that can make getting around quicker and easier. Others rely on bus transportation, which may take a little longer but can also fit better within your vacation budget.

Neither option is right or wrong. It simply depends on what will make your vacation feel easier for your family.

Ask yourself… How important is it for us to get back to our resort quickly during the day?

Which parks will you spend the most time visiting?

Not every family plans their vacation the same way. Some families know they’ll spend most of their trip at Magic Kingdom. Others are excited for EPCOT festivals, Star Wars at Hollywood Studios, or a mix of all four parks.

While you don’t have to stay near the park you’ll visit most often, it can make your vacation more convenient depending on your priorities. Thinking about where you’ll spend the majority of your time can help narrow down which resort areas make the most sense.

Ask yourself… Which parks are the biggest priority for our family?

What kind of room does your family actually need?

For some families, a standard hotel room works perfectly. For others, having extra space can make a huge difference. Consider questions like:

  • Does everyone need their own sleeping space?
  • Would a separate bedroom help younger children go to bed earlier?
  • Would a kitchenette be helpful for breakfasts or snacks?
  • Would your family appreciate extra room to spread out after a busy day?

The right room isn’t always the biggest one—it’s the one that works best for your family’s needs.

How much time will you spend enjoying your resort?

Some families see their Disney resort as simply a place to sleep. Others plan resort days, afternoon pool breaks, or downtime between park visits.

If you expect to spend very little time at your resort, you may not need every extra amenity.

But if relaxing at the pool, enjoying recreation activities, or taking a slower pace is part of your vacation, those features become much more important. The more time you plan to spend at your resort, the more those amenities can add to your overall experience.

Ask yourself… Will our resort just be a place to sleep, or will it be part of our vacation?

What dining options do you want nearby?

Dining is another factor that’s easy to overlook. Some resorts offer primarily quick-service dining, while others have multiple table-service restaurants, lounges, coffee shops, and additional dining choices within easy reach.

If your family enjoys trying different restaurants or you’d like more variety without leaving your resort area, that’s worth considering when choosing where to stay. On the other hand, if grabbing breakfast before heading to the parks is all you need, a simpler dining setup may be a great fit.

How to Choose a Disney World Resort That Fits Your Family

Budget is absolutely an important part of planning a Walt Disney World vacation. Every family has a different comfort level, and your resort should fit comfortably within the budget you’ve set.

At the same time, I encourage families not to choose a resort based on price alone. Sometimes spending a little more on transportation, room size, or convenience makes the vacation noticeably more enjoyable. Other times, you’ll discover you don’t need those extras at all. The goal isn’t to spend the most or the least.

The best Disney World resort isn’t necessarily the most expensive one or the least expensive one. It’s the one that best supports the kind of vacation your family wants to have.
